Elected politicians making money off their votes in Congress and the Senate. Both parties are guilty.
Political Corruption
Former U.S. Rep. George Santos a Republican from New York is expected to plead guilty to multiple counts in his federal fraud case. Santos has previously pleaded not guilty to a range of financial crimes, including lying to Congress about his wealth, collecting unemployment benefits while actually working and using campaign contributions to pay for personal expenses such as designer clothing. Among the charges Santos faces are wire fraud, theft of public funds, money laundering and aggravated identify theft. Santos has lied about everything including comments on his former campaign trail. Federal prosecutors plan to admit as evidence some of the lies Santos made during his campaign. Before he was elected in 2022 to represent parts of Queens and Long Island, he falsely claimed to have graduated from both New York University and Baruch College and that he had worked at top Wall Street firms. The crimes were not done by just Santos but his campaign aids as well, they have already pleaded guilty to crimes related to the former congressman’s campaign. Last October, his ex-treasurer, Nancy Marks, pleaded guilty to a fraud conspiracy charge and implicated Santos in a scheme to embellish his campaign finance reports with a fake loan and fake donors. A lawyer for Marks said at the time his client would be willing to testify against Santos if asked, saying she had been “mentally seduced” by Santos. Whatever that means. Miele, a former fundraiser for Santos, pleaded guilty to a federal wire fraud charge, admitting he impersonated a high-ranking congressional aide while raising campaign cash for Santos. The New York Republican was ousted from Congress in December after an ethics investigation found vast confirmation he had broken the law and abused his public position for his own profit. Both parties have had their issues with corruption, Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), bribery and corruption charges Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.), seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of theft of public funds and two counts of making materially false statements to the House. Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-Neb.) making false statements to federal authorities who were investigating illegal contributions made by a foreign national to his 2016 reelection campaign. Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.) conspiracy to commit securities fraud and lying to federal law enforcement agents. 2 years in prison pardoned by Trump. Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.)
Hunter was indicted in August 2018 with his wife, Margaret E. Hunter, on charges “that they converted more than $250,000 in campaign funds to pay for personal expenses and filed false campaign finance records with the Federal Election Commission, Rep. Corrine Brown (D-Fla.) Brown was indicted on fraud charges in July 2016, got 5 years in prison. Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-Pa.)Fattah was indicted in 2015 in a case alleging that he participated in a racketeering conspiracy, bribery, wire fraud and money laundering, among other charges. Got 10 years in prison. Of course there have been more, but these charges go back decades. We have congressmen and senators who vote on bills who have ties to the intended recipients on various bills, these elected do not disclose their ties to these corporations where they ultimately make money from the success of these companies because of the bill which they voted on. This type of crap needs to be stopped all investments held by congressmen and senators need to be reveled and reported and these people should not get to vote on any bill which their investments or ties may benefit.
