I will admit that I am one Democrat that is terribly disappointed with our President, especially on this one very important issue, the right to collective bargaining. I know that my last weeks Tammy's Take addressed this issue but I am still very much fired up about the destruction of the middleclass by the Republican Party. The president made a few campaign promises that he has not kept but the one that sticks in my mind is the one he made in October 2007, if American workers are being denied the right to organize when I am in the White House, I will put on a comfortable pair of shoes and I will walk on that picket line with you as president of the United states". So far the President has no plans to do such a thing and has kept very quiet about the anti-union, anti-American, and definitely anti-middleclass act that Scott Walker and the republicans are doing in Wisconsin and what the republicans are planning to do in other states around the country.
President Obama's comment about the situation in Wisconsin was a lame one, which consisted of people need to come together, well I am sorry Mr. President that did not work very well for you and our party when you tried that lame tactic with the republicans over and over again.
Even though Organizing for America, Obama's political arm of the Democratic National Committee, has facilitated protests in Wisconsin and other states, they are down playing their involvement. I applaud their actions but the people need and want the presidents voice to be one with theirs and the president needs to make an appearance in Wisconsin. If the president wants his grass root base to be energized in the up coming election for president, then he needs to gain their confidence and their support, or he may not get elected, people will remember what he did not do.
The President should understand that the middleclass of America is tired of being down trodden by the right wing corporatists that are running this country. The time is now to take a stand while so many Americans are in unison with each other. There may not be another ample moment that would constituent change for so many hard workingmen and women. With the movement in Wisconsin the popularity of unions are coming back, younger people are realizing that unions are important and are needed to protect the rights of all workers against those greedy corporatists who, if they had their way would pay well below minimum wages with no benefits, while reaping in massive amounts of profits.
The President needs to get off his executive behind and grow a set of presidential testicles and show the republicans, the country, and the world that America will not allow tyrants to bully, oppress, dictate, or prosper off hard working people, and that America still stands for what is right. What he has to do is simple the problem is he has to do it.
TAMMY
Maybe we should mail a pair of walking shoes to the president to make a statement.
