Representative Brad Witt Democrat district 31 has been upfront and honest with his constituents from the very beginning that he is in favor of LNG (Liquid natural Gas) at the Bradwood site on the Columbia River next door to the Wauna paper mill. Witt came out in favor of LNG early on.

This is where Witt and LNG get interesting.

I offered Congressional hearing information to Mr. Witt about LNG testimony given to Congress from Professor Jerry Havens a Chemical engineer and director of the Chemical Hazards Research Center at the University of Arkansas. He helped write federal standards for estimating the size and intensity of fires involving LNG), Havens is also a former officer in the Army's chemical weapons division. Havens is neither for nor against LNG, but wants the truth about LNG to come out and wants the public to know of its dangers, and he wants the federal government to use discretion as where LNG facilities are to be placed.
I offered valuable information to Mr. Witt; I met with Witt at his request to give him the material. At that time he told me that he knew all there was to know about LNG and his mind was made up and he supported LNG. I was glad to know that Mr. Know it all, was representing me along with his other constituents who had deep concerns about the placement of LNG on the Columbia River and passing closely through the community of Astoria.
I attended a public meeting early on in the anti LNG issue held in Astoria where Professor Havens was a guest speaker, the professor commented that LNG facilities should NOT be placed near people and should not have ships transporting LNG past communities such as Astoria. Havens commented that he felt that LNG facilities should be placed off shore period.
Evidently Brad Witt refuses to comprehend the seriousness of LNG facilities and ship transports near communities and continues to support LNG. Witt support's LNG because the unions want to build the facilities, and Witt owes his current position because of union support. I can understand that the building would produce several hundred union jobs for a period of time during construction, but is the long-term effect of a LNG facility worth a short-term benefit? These are things that must be considered in the fray.
It is apparent through a ballot measure held in Clatsop County and vote outcome, that the majority of Witt's constituents do not want LNG in their area. Anti LNG opposition is growing through out Oregon and its communities since the pipeline proposal has came into play. The pipeline which will carry the LNG to markets outside Oregon (to California) is yet another part of the controversy that is stopping the LNG facility. The destruction of private property owners lands; nurseries, vineyards, and the destruction of wetlands, rivers, streams, and national forest are now coming into the controversy. In my opinion these issues will have a direct effect in stopping these unwanted and unneeded facilities.
It has been proven many times that Oregon does not need LNG that the United States does not need LNG, the people who are promoting LNG are looking for a cash cow to enhance their pocketbooks at a tremendous cost to the citizens and taxpayers of Oregon.
Witt's own democratic party has came out against LNG, yet Witt continues to support LNG against his constituents and democratic party's desires, shame on you Representative Witt if you continue down this destructive path you may not get re-elected this next time. I will not be voting for you and hopefully other Democrats will follow my suit.
NOTE:
Brad Witt has sponsored House Bill 3058 although the bill does not mention LNG in particular, it is evident to any one who reads the bill and is familiar with the LNG issue the context of the bill will definitely help LNG promoters in their quest. And hurt everyone else in its path.
