"Go To Girls" Collect Food for the Needy

A group of local activists called "The Go To Girls" (Stephanie Klepel, Georgia Keiper, Tammy Maygra, and Peggy Crisp) collected food and dollars for the Columbia Pacific Food Bank at the recently held Columbia County Fair. The girls are a group of friends who work on various issue affecting the county, decided that they needed to do something for their many neighbors through out Columbia County whom are falling on hard times during these slow economic times. The Girls went before the fair board and asked permission to do the drive during the fair, the board agreed and the drive was a go. At press time the girls have estimated a collection of approximately $1,000.00 + in cash donations and nearly a 50-gallon drum of non-perishable items. Watch the newspapers for a final tally. The Girls want to express their thanks to all the great people who donated food and cash to the event. Special thanks, to Marty and Phil, from KOHI radio station who donated cash and also gave free radio advertising to the project. With out the help from everybody the drive would not have been a success. Some donations came from some people who had been dependent on the food bank in the past and said; now that they were on their feet it was time to give back. Some folks said that every one of us is one catastrophic event from needing help. The annual budget for the food bank is $185,000 and the average number of people who are receiving food boxes each month are: 2,095
For each dollar collected the food bank can buy $7 worth of food. They have a walk in freezer and a truck that delivers food to the rural areas,
If you have a garden and have extra vegetables or fruit that would other wise go to waste the food bank accepts those donations as well.
The address for the food bank is: 474 Milton Way, St. Helens
Phone 503-397-9708
Please call for operating hours.
Once again,
Stephanie, Georgia, Tammy, and Peggy want to express their thanks to everyone who donated to this chartable event and hope that you will continue to donate to the local food bank through out the year. And they hope to see everyone again next year at the Columbia County Fair!
