FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Come Share Your Creative Ideas & Experience with the Community of St. Helens
St. Helens, February 1, 2018, 10:15 A.M.: The City of St. Helens is currently taking applications from interested persons in the community who would like to volunteer to serve on the St. Helens Arts and Cultural Commission.
Generally, the Arts and Cultural Commission meets once per month on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 5:00 p.m., but may meet more often depending on what projects are in-process. The Commission is a project-oriented board. Projects range in size and typically require work outside of the monthly meetings. Major projects undertaken by the Commission include the multi-phase Gateway Sculpture Project http://www.ci.st-helens.or.us/bc-acc/page/gateway-sculpture-project and the Corridor Banner Project. Projects of this magnitude will involve most members in various aspects of the project from concept, approval, marketing, fundraising, implementation and maintenance. Other Commission efforts may include smaller scale projects such as artistic bike rack installations, hosting community art workshops/competitions – Mask Making, 4th of July Trashcan Painting, and Carved Pumpkin Contest.
Currently, the Commission is made up of artists, art lovers and an architect. It is the desire of the Commission to recruit individuals who can commit the time and energy to assist in the promotion and marketing of projects, are not afraid to take the lead on a few projects, and can work with a team to fundraise in order to implement many of the Commission’s projects.
Are you creative? Ambitious? Do you think outside the box? Apply for this position to make a difference in our city and bring art to our community.
The Commission was created and members are appointed by the City Council. The Commission is tasked with advising the City Council in all matters pertaining to the coordination and placement of art on public property in St. Helens. The arts and cultural topics include but are not limited to music, drama, dance, creative writing and poetry, architecture and landscape design, painting, sculpture, photography, graphics, craft and folk art, film and video, and such other endeavors as may be designated by the Commission.
